Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding Peer Counselor:
Breastfeeding is one of the very best gifts you can give your baby.
Breastfeeding is a natural, wonderful expression of love and bonding along with nutrition. WIC recommends that mothers breastfeed babies and we’re here to help with breastfeeding education and encouragement. The Health Department offers breastfeeding assistance by trained staff who provide educational resources, in-person or virtual breastfeeding support and compassionate counseling. Breastfeeding support is FREE to pregnant or breastfeeding moms in Tuscola County that are currently WIC participants. Our office provides a welcoming atmosphere for breastfeeding, including a calm, quiet space for mothers looking for more privacy while they feed their baby.

WIC clients also have access to our breastfeeding peer counselor. Our Peer Counselor is a mom that has breastfed too! The Peer Counselor will educate about the wonderful benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, teach breastfeeding classes, facilitate breastfeeding support groups, help with achieving painless latch at the breast, help develop strong milk supply, and provide support with a plan for pumping and returning to work/school.

Referrals are made to our International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for more advanced breastfeeding concerns.
